No other capital city can beat Tokyo. This gateway to Japan is gaining attention as an adventure travel destination. Its urban center is one of the most populous places in the world, but if you venture slightly westward, one hour by train, you will find magnificent mountains. Mt. Takao is a popular hiking destination that  earned three stars from the Michelin Green Guide. An oasis for Tokyoites, the Okutama area is ideal for camping, fishing and white-water rafting.

Southeast of Tokyo lies the Izu and Ogasawara Islands, where you can roam tropical white-sand beaches, rugged volcanic landscapes and lush forest-covered mountains. The southernmost area of Japan covers an immense climate range that is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Japan and the Seto Inland Sea, and the heartland of Japan is blanketed in mountain peaks and volcanoes. With all this topographical variety, the possibilities for outdoor leisure and adventure are endless.

Kyoto became Japan’s capital in 794 AD. Since then, the city is revered as a sacred place where emperors and aristocrats resided until 1869, when the capital moved east to Edo, which then became Tokyo (east capital).

Kyoto City has approximately 300 Shinto shrines and 1.800 Buddhist temples, each with a wealth of architectural ingenuity, creative artifacts and art masterpieces. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the city itself can be considered a museum. In the Gion area, the city’s unique history is still alive, with traditional machiya (merchant) houses and maikos (apprentice geisha) still walking its streets.

From ancient times to today, Japan has evolved in the pursuit of beauty and refined culture. And in Kyoto, the historic cultural capital of Japan, the beauty created 1.000+ years ago lives on, offering a glimpse into the lives of the people of that time.

Osaka is "The City of Kuidaore," which means "the city where you eat 'til you bust." Kuidaore is a reflection of Osaka's history and its spirits.

The city is geographically blessed with abundant food, including fresh seafood from Osaka Bay and a wide variety of vegetables grown inland.

Visit Kuromon Market and the Dotonbori and Shinsekai neighborhoods to sample some of Osaka's delectable dishes.
